Chinua Achebe wins Man Booker International prize
|
24-06-2007 Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has been announced as this year's winner of the lifetime achievement award. Often described as the 'father of modern African literature', Achebe is best known for his first novel, Things Fall Apart (1958), and Anthills of the Savannah, published more than 30 years later. Professor Achebe has most recently contributed to our latest publication Under the Tree of Talking, in which he revisits his 1983 essay The Trouble with Nigeria to see how much has changed in 24 years, and whether there is, at last, cause for optimism.
