One of Britain’s oldest established Muslim communities is launching a campaign to win the hearts and minds of Britons.
It is being launched by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of UK, who represent a small sect of Islam, and will include ads on buses as well as doorstep leafleting.
It is supported by a new website: LoveForAllHatredForNone.org, which they say seeks to change the perception of Islam, “by clarifying its true teachings and emphasising the need for these to be put in practice by all Muslims”.
In a press statement, Rafiq Hayat, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK, said: “By emphasising the values highlighted in this campaign we hope to facilitate a better understanding of Islam so that people are able judge for themselves the actions of those who claim to speak and act in its good name. Islam stresses the promotion of peace in words and deeds.”
It was launched across 100 buses in Central London from this week.
He said Ahmadi Muslims are also planning to personally call on nearly three million households and present people with a leaflet that highlights Islam’s commitment to fundamental values of: loyalty, freedom, equality, respect and peace
The initiative is being supported by Communities and Local Government minister John Denham MP and Shahid Malik MP.
